Aikido:
The art of aikido was formulated by Morehei Ueshiba between 1917 - 1930, from the 700 year old Japanese Daito-ryu-jujutsu.
Aikido offers a dynamic but non-aggressive form of self defence; combining circular movement with technique.
Traditionally included in aikido is the use of weapons, along with defence against knife, staff and sword.
Today, whilst upholding the 'traditional' and 'budo' aspects of the art; techniques centre around self defence and personal protection fitting with the 21st centuary.
Training is relaxed and relatively informal. Loose durable clothing is required, if not a Gi (Jodo suit).
There is an etiquette in the dojo (training room), including training in bare feet and no jewellery.
